Color Correctors

Hey everyone,

We all know that color correction is gonna be this years theme in the beauty world. Finally we can move forward from Contouring. I am honestly bored out of my mind with contouring. Anyways, Color Correcting. What is that? Why do I need it? Can't my concealer do that already? I will try my best to keep it simple and straight forward. We've seen a lot of Instagramers and Youtube gurus use them but in my opinion some of them are using it incorrectly.  Here's why....NOT EVERYONE NEEDS IT! yes, that is right, not everyone needs color correction on the skin. Now that I got that thought out of the way lets move along...

What is Color Correction? fantastic question!

-Color correction is simply using specific colors to neutralize the areas of the skin. Important not: ONLY if you need it. :) 

Why do I need it? 

- You will only need color correction if you have the following skin concerns: Dark Circles, Redness, Dark Spots and Sallowness/Dullness. 

Can't my concealer do that already?

-If your skin concerns (as mentioned above) are more noticeable, concealer is not going to do the trick without you applying a thousand layers and be left with a pound of concealer on your face. Not only is it going to look unnatural but you'll also be left with a grey area that is only going to frustrate you even more.

Now that we got those questions out the way. Let's take a look at the types of concerns and the colors that will help neutralize them. KEEP IN MIND...skin tone plays a major role in choosing the correct color to neutralize.

• If you're complaining that you have DULLNESS, well your solution is a BABY PINK corrector
• If you're complaining that you have PURPLE dark circles or areas, well you need a BUTTERCREAM (aka yellow) corrector 
• If you're complaining that you have REDNESS, a MINT (aka green) corrector should do the trick
• If you're complaining that you have BLUENESS on the skin, a PEACH corrector will neutralize the area 
• If you're complaining that you have SALLOW skin,  a beautiful soft and gentle LILAC corrector will comfort your concern away.

We have the colors out the way but now we must find the proper format to choose for our concerns. If you have a particular concern all over an area the following will be ideal to use: Primer, Powder or Cream (skincare to correct that in the long term).  For spots or targeted areas: Cream, Liquid or Palette will be ideal. 

Remember I mentioned that skin tone plays a huge role in choosing a color, time to break down the concern and skintone.

UNDER EYE CIRCLES   

--Side Note: you can include bruises 

• FAIR Skin with Purple/Reddish Circles: YELLOW.  Green/Blue circles = PINK or APRICOT
• LIGHT Skin with Purple/Reddish Circles: YELLOW. Green/Blue Circles= PINK or PEACH
• MEDIUM Skin with Bluish/Brown: Mild concern=PEACH, Serious Concern= MELON to RED
• DARK/DEEP skin with Bluish/Brown/Gray: Mild Concern= ORANGE, Serious Concern=RED

DARK SPOTS

--Side Note: Sun Damage, Pregnancy mask, Scarring, Birthmarks, Freckles

 In this case the skin tone doesn't matter as much but instead the severity of the dark spot that you are trying to neutralize. 

• MILD => PEACH
• MEDIUM => MELON
• SEVERE => ORANGE

REDNESS

--Side Note: Acne, Rosacea, Sunburn, Birthmark, Broken Capillaries, Reactive Skin

• MILD => YELLOW
• MEDIUM-SEVERE => GREEN

SALLOWNESS

--Side Note: Natural undertone, sick. This basically means that the skin appears to have a yellow cast.

• LIGHT to MEDIUM skin only => LAVENDER

DULLNESS

--Side Note: loss of radiance. I would say that Makeup Forever's Primers are the go to for this skin concern. They have a wider color range addressing the issue. 

• LIGHT => PINK
• MEDIUM with RED Undertone => PINK
• MEDIUM with YELLOW Undertone => PEACH
• DEEP/DARK => MELON/ORANGE 

ANNNNNDD there you have it! Hopefully all this information is helpful and help you decide which colors to choose for the specific skin concerns that you may have. Remember just because it's the trend doesn't mean that you need it. Be wise and only use if you need to address those concerns.
